The Box Factory
The problem with Thinking Out of The Box is the initial assumption that there is a box that could dangerously limiting possibilities.
A couple weeks ago, I attended TEDx MCU: Show Off. There I watched the talk by Tauhid Nur Azhar, a lecturer from MCU, who provoke some ideas in my mind which kept me dwell on it hours after he’s done with the talk.
I was so interested with a concept he presents called The Box Factory and its connection with creativity.
He invites us to revisit whether our creatives thoughts and actions has been commoditized to still fits into public taste; i.e. a manufactured box that dictates what is normal and acceptable.
Maybe we’re careful because on top of our need for creative expression, we still have the need to survive within a capitalistic system. We are confident so long that it was widely accepted by market. We are free to share our opinion so long that it aligns with stakeholders interest.
